Solution

Answer
Aim:
To show that heat is given out during the germination of seeds.
Apparatus required:
• Thermos flask, thermometer, cork and moist germinating seeds.

Procedure:
• Take a thermos flask and put some germinating seeds in it.
• Insert a thermometer in the flask and seal its mouths with the cork.
• Note the initial temperature.
• Again, note the temperature after two days.
• It is observed that the temperature in the flask rises due to the heat produced during the germination of seeds.
• While undergoing germination the seeds respire vigorously and produce large amounts of heat.

Conclusion:
• It can be concluded that heat evolved during the germination of seeds.
