Integer are whole numbers which are in negative direction also. On the right side of zero we have positive integers and on the left side of zero we have negative integers. numbers appearing on the right side on the number line will be greater than the number appearing on the left side.

So the numbers which are less than $-12$ are those which lie on the left side of $-12$ on the number line.

Hence $-13,-15,-16,-20,-23$ are five numbers less than $-12$
