Root hair is an elongated tubular extensions of an epidermal cell of a root.
They absorb water and minerals from the soil.
Characteristics of root hair:
They have thin walls.
Root hair increases the surface area of the root system and assists with the absorption of nutrients.
The cells of root hair have a large vacuole. This speeds up the movement of water to travel up the xylem and reach the cells.
The concentration of the salt solution in the vacuole is higher than that of the surrounding water. This helps water to transport from the soil to the root hair by osmosis.
