Write any four physiological adaptions found in aquatic plants.
Adaptions found in an aquatic plant (hydrophytes) are as follows:
(1) Hydrophytes show the low osmotic concentration of cell which is equal or slightly higher than that of the habitat or water body.
(2) Some hydrophytes possess hydathodes (water stomata) which reduce the excessive amounts of water present in the plant.
(3) The gases are changed from water through surface cells. Some CO2 evolved during respiration is stored in the air spaces and consumed during photosynthesis where O2 evolved used in respiration.
(4)The mucilaginous secretion of mucilage cells and mucilage cells and mucilage canals around the body of the hydrophytes provide protection against friction, desiccation, decaying and microbial injuries.
