The common adaptations found in all types of fishes are-

(1) Gills- organs for respiration. They are capable of absorbing oxygen from the water.

(2) Fins- modified forelimbs and hindlimbs. They control the stability and underwater directional motion of fish.

(3) Body shape- streamlined, spindle-shaped body covered with scales. It is laterally compressed which helps in swimming.
