Magnet is a substance that has its own magnetic field.
Each electron is a magnetic dipole in itself and when they are distributed unequally in an atom, the substance exhibits magnetism and is called a magnet.
In a magnetic material, the poles of the atoms are aligned.
Properties of magnets:
A magnet always has two poles: north and south. The poles never exist by themselves. They are always paired.
Like poles repel and opposite poles attract. That is, when the north pole is brought near the north pole, or when the south pole is brought near south pole, the magnets repel and when north pole is brought near south pole, the magnets attract and stick together.
