Question

Write balanced chemical equation for the following:
Action of dilute Sulphuric acid on Sodium sulphite.

Open in App
Solution

Action of dilute Sulphuric acid on Sodium sulphite:-

  1. When dilute Sulphuric acid reacts with Sodium sulphite, it gives Sodium sulphate, water and Sulphur dioxide.
  2. Balanced chemical equation:- Na2SO3(s)(Sodiumsulphite)+H2SO4(dil)(aq)(Sulphuricacid)Na2SO4(aq)(Sodiumsulphate)+H2O(l)(Water)+SO2(g)(Sulphurdioxide)

Hence, Reaction of dilute Sulphuric acid with Sodium sulphite gives Sodium sulphate- Na2SO3(s)(Sodiumsulphite)+(dil)H2SO4(aq)(Sulphuricacid)Na2SO4(aq)(Sodiumsulphate)+H2O(l)(Water)+SO2(g)(Sulphurdioxide)
