Write brief notes on:

Isotopes.

Open in App
Solution

  1. Isotopes are two or more types of atoms with the same atomic number and periodic table position (and so belong to the same chemical element), but varying nucleon numbers (mass numbers) due to differing numbers of neutrons in their nuclei.
  2. While all isotopes of the same element have almost identical chemical characteristics, their atomic weights and physical attributes differ.
  3. For example, the two isotopes of uranium are Uranium 235 U92235 and Uranium 238 U92238.
