Properties of CO₂ -

• A colourless, tasteless and odourless gas
• It does not burn and thus, does not support burning. Therefore, used in extinguishing fire and is non-flammable.
• Being heavier than air, it is collected by upward displacement of air.
• It has two double bonds and shows linear shape.
• It does not have an electric dipole and is thus, fully oxidised.
• Easily soluble in water
• A greenhouse gas since it transmits visible light but absorbs infrared and near infrared light.
