Solution
In an ionic compound, the ability of cation to attract the electrons of anion is called the polarizing power. Due to polarizability of anion, it gets distorted & sharing of electrons take place and ionic compounds possess some covalent character.
Greater is the polarization , greater is the covalent character.
∴Decreasing order of covalent character is
(1) LiCl>NaCl>KCl>RbCl
Since smaller the cation , more is the covalent character.
(2) SiCl4>MgCl2>NaCl
Since cation has more positive charge & is more covalent.
(3) SnCl4>SnCl2
Since oxidation state of Sn is +4 & +2 i.e. more positive charge, more covalent.
