Solution

Erythrocytes:

  1. Erythrocytes are also known as red blood cells(RBCs). They are disc-shaped and anucleate cells.
  2. Erythrocytes lack organelles like mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, etc. and thus, their surface area increases and thus they can carry a greater volume of oxygen.
  3. Lack of mitochondria also ensures that the red blood cells do not use the oxygen for themselves.

Leucocytes

  1. Leucocytes are also known as white blood cells (WBCs). They are amoeboid cells with a large nucleus.
  2. The shape of leukocytes ensures that they can squeeze through the blood capillaries easily.

Erythrocyte

Leucocyte

FunctionErythrocytes contain pigment hemoglobin that binds oxygen and helps the blood to transport this gas to various parts of the body. It also imparts red color to the blood. Leucocytes are colorless cells. They play a vital role in bodies defense mechanism against invading pathogens.
