Two differences between a longitudinal and a transverse wave are as follows :

1. The wave in which the particles of the medium oscillate (vibrate) along the line of propagation of the wave is called a longitudinal wave. 1. A wave in which the particles of the medium oscillate/vibrate in a direction perpendicular to the direction of propagation is called a transverse wave.
