means 1 part out of 3 equal parts.

Each of these 3 parts is again divided into 4 equal parts.

Total number of parts = 4 × 3 = 12

Number of parts taken = 4 × 1 = 4

means 1 part out of 4 equal parts.

Each of these 4 parts is again divided into 3 equal parts.

Total number of parts = 3 × 4 = 12

Number of parts taken = 3 × 1 = 3

(ii)

means 1 part out of 4 equal parts.

Each of these 4 parts is again divided into 6 equal parts.

Total number of parts = 6 × 4 = 24

Number of parts taken = 6 × 1 = 6

means 1 part out of 6 equal parts.

Each of these 6 parts is again divided into 4 equal parts.

Total number of parts = 4 × 6 = 24

Number of parts taken = 4 × 1 = 4

(iii)

means 1 part out of 3 equal parts.
