Write examples of particles of matter that have space between them.

Solution

Inter-molecular spaces:

  • Inter-molecular space is the term used to describe the space between matter particles.
  • Depending on the kind of matter being considered, there may be a certain amount of intermolecular space between the particles of matter.
  • The inter-molecular space between the particles is greatest in gases and lowest in solids.

Examples:

Between each particle, the substance contains minuscule spaces. This property is the basis for the theory behind a substance's solubility in other substances. Here are some examples:

  • When sugar is dissolved in water, we will get a clear solution where the sugar takes up the small interspaces in between the water, the sugar will dissolve until all the spaces are occupied by them.
  • Ink is dissolved in water or some other solvent.
  • Potassium permanganate is dissolved in water or with some other solvent.
  • Milkshake making.
