Question

Write Faraday's laws of electrolysis.

Open in App
Solution

Faraday's first law states that the mass of a substance that is deposited or liberated at an electrode is directly proportional to the amount of charge passed.
W=ZQ where W is the mass of the substances and Q is the charge and Z is the electrochemical equivalent.

The second law states that the mass of a substance deposited/liberated at an electrode on passing a specific amount of charge is directly proportional to its chemical equivalent weight.
If W1 and W2 are the mass of the substances and E1 and E2 are their equivalent weight than,
W1W2=E1E2
