Write four characteristics of a neutral organic compound 'A' is C2H6O which gives the following reactions:
(i) Gives an acidic compound 'B' on oxidation with acidified potassium dichromate.
(ii) Compound 'A' on heating with 'B' in presence of concentrated H2SO4 gives a sweet smelling substance 'C'.
Identify the compounds A,B,C. Give the equation of the related reactions.

The compound (A) is ethanol. Its reactions are shown below.
Characteristics of ethanol:
1) It is colourless, sweet-smelling liquid.
2) It is completely soluble in water.
3) It reacts with active metals like Na or K with the liberation of heat.
4) It forms inter-molecular hydrogen bonds. Hence, it has high boiling points.
