Natural Vegetation of Peninsular (Deccan) Plateau :
a. Varied topography and other, physical features of the Deccan Plateau have rich variety of forests.
b. Tropical evergreen, Tropical moist deciduous, Tropical dry deciduous and Thorny scrub forests are found in this region.
c. Tropical evergreen forests are dense but limited.
d. Teak, Sal, Sheesham, Sandalwood, Khair, Harda and Arjun are some of the trees found here.
e. Sandalwood has a very high commercial value.
f. Forests are being depleted because of the pressure from population, agriculture and mining.
Animals of Peninsular (Deccan) Plateau:
a. A variety of grazing animals from the Four homed Antelope and blackbuck to the Gaur and Wild Buffalo are found here.
b. Other important animals are the Tiger, Dhole (fierce wild dog of the forest), Sloth Bear and other carnivores.
c. This area is a home to many mammals.
d. Some of the larger species mentioned here are rare.
e. The Indian giant squirrel is endangered.
f. The 300 species of birds including Jerdons Courser-are globally threatened
