Solution

Human evolution:

  1. The development of newer types of organisms from pre-existing ones is called ‘evolution’.
  2. Human evolution started with Australopithecus and culminated in Modern Man.

Australopithecus (First man-ape):

  1. They were human-like below the neck and ape-like above the neck.
  2. They exhibited bipedalism but with bent knees.

Homo habilis (Early true man):

  1. Homo habilis used chipped stone tools and primitive shelters against rain, wind, wild animals, etc.
  2. Perfect bipedal locomotion was first observed in Homo habilis.

Homo erectus (Erect Man):

  1. Homo erectus walked erect on their legs and they lived in caves.
  2. They had learned the use of fire, stone tools, bone tools, etc. They also developed some primitive types of speech.

Neanderthal Man (Homo neanderthalensis):

  1. The Neanderthal man's cranial capacity was greater than the earlier ancestors.
  2. They lived in caves as well as hut-like dwellings.

Cro-magnon Man (Homo sapiens fossilis):

  1. The Cro-Magnon man is the nearest relative of Modern Man. They developed a chin that was absent in their ancestors.
  2. They were cave-dwellers and made cave paintings. They used stone spears, arrowheads, animal skin garments, etc.

Modern Man (Homo sapiens sapiens):

  1. The modern man had a perfectly erect posture, thin skull bone, straight limb, and prominent chin.
  2. Their brow ridges got reduced and hair on the body reduced. After having evolved, modern man has passed through cultural evolution.

Therefore, the correct evolutionary sequence is Australopithecus, Homo habilis, Homo erectus, Neanderthal Man, Cro-magnon Man, and Modern Man.
