Gastric juice contains the following components:
(i)Pepsin, (ii) Rennin, (iii) HCl (iv) Gastric mucin
(i)Pepsin: In the presence of HCl it converts protein into peptones.
(ii) Rennin: In the presence of HCl and Ca++ ion it converts milk protein into calcium paracaseinate.
(iii) Gastric mucin: It keeps the food slimy and protects the stomach, wall against its attack by the protein enzymes. Mucin is not an enzyme but it is found in the gastric juice.
