Write names of various parts of carpel of a flower and their functions.
A carpel of a flower is a female reproductive part. The other parts of a flower are ovary, style and stigma.
Ovary is the basal part of carpel bearing ovules, which after fertilisation forms the seed and the ovary forms the fruit. Style is an elongated tubular part of carpel above the ovary. It elevates the stigma above from the other flower parts. Stigma is the uppermost part of the carpel which receives pollen grains. It secretes sugar and in some cases produces malic acid for the germination of pollen grains.
