Solution

The hydrolysis of benzonitrle gives benzoic acid. Decarboxylation, upon heating with soda lime, converts benzoic acid into benzene. Friedel Crafts Acylation with benzoyl chloride in presence of anhydrous aluminum chloride gives benzophenone.
