Write redox reaction between fluorine and water.
Redox reactions are those reactions in which oxidation and reduction reactions take place simultaneously.
Now, the reaction between fluorine and water can be written as:
2F2(g)+2H2O(l)→4HF(aq)+O2(g)
F=0 H=+1 H=+1 O=0 O=−2 F=−1
In the above reaction, F2 is getting reduced to F− as oxidation number is decreased from 0 to −1 while H2O is getting oxidised as oxidation number of oxygen is increased from −2 to 0.
Since oxidation and reduction reactions are taking place simultaneously, the above reaction is a redox reaction.
