Solution
The following are the similarities between management and a regular profession:
Systemised knowledge- Similar to a profession, management incorporates a systemized and well-defined body of knowledge. This knowledge of management can be attained through various colleges, institutes and books.
Restriction of entry- Management satisfies this criterion only to some extent. As against other professions, such as medicine or law, no specific qualification or degree is required to be a manager. However, the entry is restricted, as persons with a professional management degree or a diploma are usually preferred.
Professional association- A professional has to be a member or be associated with a statutory body that is responsible for stating the laws of that profession. Similarly, management is also affiliated to a professional association that regulates the functions of members.
Code of conduct- All professionals have to abide by the rules and regulations developed by any apex authority that regulates the functioning of a profession. In management too, there is a specific code of conduct but it is not obligatory for managers to abide by them.
Thus, it can be said that to some extent, management satisfies the criteria for it to be called a profession.
