It was formed by delegates of 50 countries in 1945 who met in San Francisco to draft the UN charter.
There are six official languages of the UN-English,French,Chinese,Russian,Spanish and Arabic.
Working languages are English and French only.The United Nations name was adopted at the suggestion of the US president F.D.Roosevelt at that time.Officially,this organisation came into existence on 24 October 1945.
