Solution

Xylem is a complex permanent tissue as it contains more than one type of cells. Different types of cells present in xylem are:

  • Tracheids: It is a non- living cell, having tapering ends.
  • Vessels: It is a non-living cell having a tubular structure.

Both tracheids and vessels are responsible for conduction of water and minerals vertically.

  • Xylem fibres: It is a non-living cell and provides support.
  • Xylem parenchyma: It is a living cell and stores food and helps in sideways conduction of water.

Conduction occurs only in an upward direction.
