After the S.P. Gupta Committee’s recommendations, Comprehensive Policy Package 2000 was announced on 30, August 2000. The aim of this policy is to help small business units compete globally.
Features of this policy:
i. For industries related to services and business enterprises, the investment limit was increased from Rs 5 lacs to Rs10 lacs.
ii. Exemption on excise duty was increased from Rs 50 lacs to Rs 1 crore.
iii. Grants of Rs 75,000 were given to small enterprises obtaining ISO 9000 certification till the end of the 10th Plan.
iv. Census of small industries was conducted after a gap of 12 years.
