1. Western Ghats: Natural vegetation : High rainfall, hot and humid climate leading to deep weathering has favoured luxuriant growth of natural vegetation in the Ghats section. A portion of sounth Sahyadri is gifted with tropical rain forests. It the south, the typical 'shola' forests having a variety of species is found. Eucalyptus and teak are to be seen in the plantation forests. In the Central Ghats dense forest areas are located in some parts. The trees like Anjar and Kanchan dominate the. landscape in the north Konkan coast. The Southern portion of the Western Ghats provide a habitat for a variety of wild life such as elephants, bison, leopard, black panthers, tigers, bear, wild boars and variety of langurs.
2. Natural disaster in the Deccan plateau :
(a) A severe earthquake of 7.4 magnitude on the Richter scale struck Ausa block of,Latur district and Umarga of Osmanabad district in Maharashtra in the year 1993. It demolished 52 villages, killed many people arid destroyed their properties.
(b) The Koyna Dam region is also prone to earthquakes. A 6.5 magnitude earthquake occurred in the region on 11th Dec., 1967. It damaged houses in Koynanagar. However, it did not cause any major damage to the Koyna Dam. There have been several earthquakes of smaller magnitude since 1967.
3. The Eastern Himalayas :
(a) This Himalayas is also known as Assam or Arunachal Himalayas.
(b) It's stretch between the River Tista and River Brahmaputra.
(c) They occupy Arunachal Pradesh and Bhutan.
(d) There are number of Mountain passes.
(e) Jelep La in Sikkim and Bum La in Arunachal Pradesh are main routes to the Tibetan Lhasa.
