Solution

(a) Biological concentration and magnification: Bioconcentration occurs when an organism absorbs toxic substance from only water at a a rate greater than that at which the substance is lost. Bioaccumulation and Bioconcentration are synonymous except the difference of the source. Biomagnification refers to the is the increase in concentration of the POPs such as DDT, that occurs in a food chain as a consequence of persistence, high lipid solubility and low water solubility.
(b) DDT: Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT), also called 1,1,1-trichloro-2,2-bis(p-chlorophenyl)ethane is a synthetic insecticide belonging to the family of organic halogen compounds, highly toxic toward a wide variety of insects as a contact poison that apparently exerts its effect by disorganizing the nervous system.
(c) Bordeaux mixture: Bordeaux mixture is a combination of copper sulfate, lime, and water which is an effective fungicide and bactericide that has been used for decades to control diseases of fruit and nut trees, vine fruits, and ornamental plants.
(d) IPM: Integrated pest management (IPM), also known as integrated pest control (IPC) is a broad-based approach that integrates practices for economic control of pests. IPM aims to suppress pest populations below the economic injury level (EIL).
(e) Natural insecticides: Insecticides are substances used to kill insects. Natural insecticides, such as nicotine, pyrethrum and neem extracts, made by plants act as defenses against insects.
(f) Biopesticides: Biopesticides are certain types of pesticides derived from such natural materials as animals, plants, bacteria, and certain minerals. For example, canola oil and baking soda have pesticidal applications and are considered biopesticides.
(g) Bioinsecticides: Control of insect pests in agriculture and of insect vectors of important human diseases is mainly achieved using chemical insecticides. In bioinsecticides, microbial agents are used to make the plant susceptible to any insect that invades the plant.
