Question

Write short notes on:
(i) Importance of H20 in plants
(ii) Advantage of turgidity to plants

Solution

i) Water is used for transpiration carrier of nutrients from the soil to green plant tissues. Water forms over 90% of the plant body by green or fresh weight basis. Plants can synthesis food through photosynthesis only in the presence of water in their system.
ii) This is also important because this function regulates water loss within the plants. Lower turgor pressure can mean that the cell has a low water concentration and closing the stomata would help to preserve water. High turgor pressure keeps the stomata open for gas exchanges necessary for photosynthesis.
