HVZ -reaction :
When the halogenation is carried out with halogen and phosphorous trihalide, this reaction is known as HellVolhard Zelinsky reaction.
$RC{H}_{2}COOH\stackrel{B{r}_2\left(PBr\right)}{\to }\underset{RCHBrCOOH}{\underset{\downarrow H_{2}O}{RC{H}_{2}COBr}}\to RCHBrCOBr$
ii) Trans - esterification :
In the presence of a little acid, mentyl acetate is cleaved by ethyl alcohol to form ethyl acetate
This is called trans- esterification.
