The following are the major objections to advertising:
i. Advertising adds to the cost of the company, which in turn is passed on to the consumers in the form of higher prices.
ii. Advertising weakens social values and instead promotes materialism in society by inducing customers to buy products that they sometimes don’t need.
iii. A large number of advertisements on similar products end up confusing customers about which product or brand they should purchase.
iv. Advertisements make tall claims, which may not be true. For example, an advertisement about a facial cream claims to make you look fairer in seven days.
v. Some advertisements are not promoted in good taste and may hurt the sentiments of people. For example, an advertisement could portray a very stereotypical image of women by showing them being confined to the kitchen and doing household chores, or girls running after men in an advertisement for a deodorant.
