Primary industries undertake activities related to extraction and processing of natural resources. The goods produced by primary industries may be either directly consumed or they are first converted into finished goods and then consumed. Goods produced by primary industry acts as a raw material for the secondary industries. The secondary industries converts the goods produced by primary industry into finished form. Agriculture, mining, fishing, hunting, etc. are among the activities undertaken by primary industries. Based on the nature of the activities performed, primary industries can be classified as 'agriculture' ‘extractive’ and ‘genetic’ industries.
Agriculture Industries- The relate to farming, cultivation, etc. Such industries indulge in growing and harvesting of crops.
Extractive Industries- They relate to procurement of raw material from the nature. Examples of such industries include coal mining, extracting oil, minerals, etc.
Genetic Industries- They relate to rearing of plants and animals. Examples of such industries include animal husbandry, poultry farming, etc.
