  1. Definition: A substance that is dissolved in a solvent to form a solution is called a solute.
  2. For example: In a salt solution, salt is dissolved in water therefore salt is the solute here and water is the solvent.
  3. In general, there are two ways of determining, whether the component is solute.
  4. The one which is present in lesser quantity is called the solute and the one present in greater quantity is called the solvent.
