Question
Write symbolic representation for the following word equation and balance them:
(f) Sodium carbonate + Hydrochloric acid(dil.) \(\rightarrow\)
Sodium chloride + water + carbon dioxide
Open in App
Solution
Symbolic representation:\(\text{Na}_{2} \text{CO}_{3}+\text{HCl} \rightarrow \text{NaCl}+\text{H}_{2} \text{O}+\text{CO}_{2}\)
To equalize \(\text{H}\), multiply \(\text{HCl}\) by 2 . \(\text{Na}_{2} \text{CO}_{3}+2 \text{HCl} \rightarrow \text{NaCl}+\text{H}_{2} \text{O}+\text{CO}_{2}\)
To equalize \(\text{Na}\) and \(\text{Cl}\), multiply \(\text{NaCl}\) by 2 .\(\text{Na}_{2} \text{CO}_{3}+2 \text{HCl} \rightarrow 2 \text{NaCl}+\text{H}_{2} \text{O}+\text{CO}_{2}\)
The equation is balanced.
