Solution

Adaptation in birds:-

  1. Birds have light and hollow bones . This makes their body light.
  2. Birds do not have teeth, which reduces the weight of a body. The function of teeth is carried out by the beak.
  3. Birds have streamlined bodies. This helps them to move easily through the air while flying.
  4. Their forelimbs have become modified into wings for flying. The hind limbs help in perching and balancing the body.
  5. Birds have feathers that help them in flying. The long, flight feather on the wings and tail help birds balance and steer.
  6. Flying birds have strong chest muscles to hold the strong flight muscles that move the wings upwards (upstroke ) and downwards (downstroke ).
  7. The body has a system of air sacs in their body that is connected to the lungs . The air sacs enable birds to extract much mother oxygen from each breath. Birds need extra oxygen to release a large amount of energy for their flight.
