Question

Write the atomicity of metals and non-metals.

Open in App
Solution

Atomicity is the number of atoms present in one molecule.

  1. Generally, all the metals have one atomicity. Hence metals are monoatomic. For example, sodium, (Na) magnesium (Mg), and iron (Fe) are monoatomic.
  2. The atomicity of non-metals varies from diatomic to polyatomic. But there is an exception of Nobel gases which are non-metals but monoatomic in nature.
  3. For example, the molecule of oxygen (O2) is a diatomic, molecule of nitrogen (N3) is triatomic.
