Atomicity is the number of atoms present in one molecule.

1. Generally, all the metals have one atomicity. Hence metals are monoatomic. For example, sodium, $\left(\mathrm{Na}\right)$ magnesium $\left(\mathrm{Mg}\right)$, and iron $\left(\mathrm{Fe}\right)$ are monoatomic.
2. The atomicity of non-metals varies from diatomic to polyatomic. But there is an exception of Nobel gases which are non-metals but monoatomic in nature.
3. For example, the molecule of oxygen $\left({\mathrm{O}}_2\right)$ is a diatomic, molecule of nitrogen $\left({\mathrm{N}}_3\right)$ is triatomic.
