Question

Write the balanced chemical equation for the following action of dilute hydrochloric acid on sodium sulphide.

Open in App
Solution

Reaction of dil. hydrochloric acid with sodium sulphide:

  • Dilute hydrochloric acid decomposes the sulphides of weak to metal chloride and hydrogen sulphide.
  • When sodium sulphide reacts with dilute Hydrochloric Acid, it will give sodium chloride and hydrogen sulphide gas as a product.

Balanced chemical equation :

Na2S(s)Sodiumsulphide+2HCl(aq)Hydrochloricacid2NaCl(aq)Sodiumchloride+H2S(g)Hydrogensulphide

So, the action of dilute hydrochloric acid on sodium sulphide gives sodium chloride, and hydrogen sulphide gas as a product.
