Question

Write the balanced chemical equation for the following:

Chlorine reacts with excess of Ammonia.

Open in App
Solution

Reaction between Chlorine and excess Ammonia:

  • When Ammonia is treated with halogen, oxidation of ammonia takes place to nitrogen along with the formation of halogen acids.
  • When Chlorine(Cl) reacts with an excess of Ammonia (NH3), it will give Ammonium chloride (NH4Cl) & Nitrogen gas(N2) as a product.

Balanced chemical equation:

2NH3(g)Ammonia+3Cl2(g)ChlorinegasN2(g)Nitrogengas+6HCl(g)HydrogenChloride
