Question

Write the balanced chemical equation for the following reaction:

Copper chloride using Copper carbonate.

Open in App
Solution

Formation of Copper chloride:

  • Hydrochloric acid decomposes the carbonate into the respective chloride along with the evolution of carbon dioxide.
  • Copper carbonate (CuCO3) reacts with Hydrochloric acid (HCl) to give Copper (II) chloride (CuCl2), water, and Carbon dioxide gas(CO2) as a product.

Balanced chemical equation:

CuCO3sCoppercarbonate+2HClaqHydrochloricacidCuCl2aqCopper(II)chloride+H2OlWater+CO2gCarbondioxide
