The thermal decomposition of lead nitrate is given as per the following balanced equation:

2 Pb(NO3)2(s) 2 PbO(s) + 4 NO2(g) + O2(g)

Observations:
1. When lead nitrate is subjected to high heat it leads to the formation of brown fumes of NO2.
​​​​​​
2. A yellow-colored residue of PbO is also left behind.
