Question

Write the balanced chemical equation when Hydrochloric acid reacts with Zinc?

Open in App
Solution

When Hydrochloric acid (HCl)reacts with Zinc (Zn), Zinc chloride (ZnCl2)is produced and Hydrogen(H2) gas is produced.

Step 1: Write the unbalanced chemical equation for the reaction
Zn(s)+HCl(aq)ZnCl2(s)+H2(g)

Step 2: To balance the Hydrogen atoms, we will multiply HClwith 2
Resulting equation:
Zn(s)+2HCl(aq)ZnCl2(s)+H2(g)

Comparing both side we find an equal number of atoms are present on both side.
Hence, the equation is balanced.
