Solution

Step 1:

Balanced chemical equation for condition 1:

  • Metals have the tendency to lose electrons.
  • X is a metal loses two electrons and forms X2+cation.

The balanced chemical equation is:
XX2++2e-

Step 2:

Balanced chemical equation for condition 2:

  • Yis a non metal gains 3 electrons and forms Y3- anion

The balanced chemical equation is:

Y+3e-Y3-

Conclusion:

Non metals have the tendency to gain electrons and complete octet.

Y will form an anion by gaining 3 electrons

Y+3e-Y3-
