Write the balanced equation when ammonia is dissolved in water.

Open in App
Solution

pKa of water is lower than NH3
Hence water is a stronger acid & donates the protons to NH3.
NH3(aq)+H2O(l)NH+4(aq)+OH(aq)
This reaction leads water to become the conjugate base OH & NH3 to become the conjugate acid NH+4 .
