Goitre:
The medical condition where the neck area of the body becomes swollen is called goitre.
This swelling is caused by the enlargement of the thyroid gland present in the neck region.
The abnormality in the thyroid gland is due to the insufficient secretion of the thyroxin hormone that rises due to iodine deficiency.
Therefore, the cause of goitre is iodine deficiency leading to hypothyroidism and enlargement of the thyroid gland.
