African sleeping sickness: Trypanosoma gambiense is the parasite which causes this disease. It is transmitted by the tsetse fly. The symptoms of this disease is that patient becomes lethargic and unconscious.
Kala azar: Kala azar means black sickness. It is caused by Leishmania donovani. The parasite is transmitted by the sandfly. The fever is continuous and is accompanied by anaemia, enlargement of liver, spleen, etc.
Delhisore: It is also known as cutaneous oriental sore. It is caused by Leishmania tropica. The infected person may be seen with cutaneous sores on hands, feet and face. It leads to ulcerated wounds with raised edges.
Giardiasis: It is caused by Giardia intestinalis. Giardia occurs in the upper part of small intestine. The symptoms of giardiasis are an epigastric pain, abdominal discomfort, diarrhoea, headache and sometimes fever.
Amoebic dysentery: It is caused by Entamoeba histolytica which resides in the upper part of the human large intestine. The symptoms of the disease are abdominal pain, repeated motions with blood and mucus.
Malaria: It is caused by Plasmodium which is a protozoan protist. Female Anopheles mosquito is the carrier of the malarial parasite. Symptoms of malaria are early restlessness, less appetite and slight sleeplessness followed by muscular pains, headache and a feeling of chilliness. In response to chills, the body temperature starts rising.
