Plaster of Paris (also known as Calcium sulphate hemihydrate) is represented by the chemical formula, CaSO4.0.5H2O. It is used to produce gypsum having the chemical formula, CaSO4.2H2O. The combination reaction of plaster of Paris with water yields gypsum.

The chemical reaction of plaster of Paris with water is given below.+

CaSO4.0.5H2Os+1.5H2OlCaSO4.2H2Os(PlasterofParis)(Water)(Gypsum)

In this reaction, a hard mass called gypsum is formed.
