When sodium acetate ( $C H_{3} C O O N a$ ) reacts with soda lime ( $N a O H + C a O$ ), it undergoes a decarboxylation reaction and gives methane ( $C H_{4}$ ) and sodium carbonate
( $N a_{2} C O_{3}$ ) as shown below:
