Question

Write the chemical reaction for the reaction of dilute sulphuric acid with aluminium powder.

Open in App
Solution

Chemical reaction:

  • A chemical reaction is a reaction where two or more compounds called reactants react to form different compounds called products.

The reaction between sulphuric acid and aluminium powder:

  • When dilute sulphuric acid reacts with aluminium powder, aluminium sulphate is formed and hydrogen gas is evolved.

3H2SO4(aq)+2Al(s)Al2(SO4)3(aq)+3H2(g)(dil.Sulphuric(Aluminium(Aluminium(Hydrogenacid)powder)sulphate)gas)

  • This reaction can be explained by reactivity seres.
  • As aluminium is more reactive when compared to hydrogen. So, the hydrogen can be easily displaced from sulphuric acid and forms aluminium sulphate.
  • The aluminium metal gets dissolved in the acid solution and forms aluminium sulphate.
