The highest power of the variable in a polynomial in one variable is called the degree of the polynomial.

(i)
The degree of the polynomial 5 + 3x4 is 4.

(ii)
7 = 7 × 1 = 7x0

The degree of the constant polynomial 7 is 0.

(iii)
The degree of the polynomial ax7 + bx9 is 9.
