Open in App
Solution

∙ Natural silk is obtained from the cocoons of silkworms and it is made up of a protein. It is an animal fibre.
∙ Synthetic or artificial silk is made with chemicals. It has the same appearance and texture as that of natural silk. It is wrinkle-resistant, cheaper, and more durable as compared to natural silk.
∙ Natural and artificial silk can be distinguished using the flame test. Natural silk burns with a flame and gives off an odour similar to burning hair when exposed to fire. Artificial silk melts and shrinks, giving off a pungent odour when burnt.
